I'm Sandra Osumanu. I trained and practised as a midwife in Ghana, and I'm now a nursing student here in Canada — and I'm a mother who has lived the hardest version of this journey myself. Here you'll find honest, gentle answers to the questions every mother asks, and a window into what midwifery is and does.
Every guide starts with the short answer, then walks you through the full picture — with the video to watch alongside. If something here is worrying you today, start with the one that matches your question.
Antenatal care, labour and birth, newborn care, community midwifery — the whole profession, explained by someone who practised it.
A calm, step-by-step look at a caesarean birth in 3D — so nothing on the day feels like a surprise.
How the two paths compare — recovery, risks, and what each one really asks of your body.
Week by week, how your baby grows from a cluster of cells to a newborn ready to meet you.
Week by week, how a single cell becomes your baby — and what you'll feel along the way.
The symptoms women notice first — often before a missed period — and how to tell them from PMS.
The symptoms that look harmless but aren't. This is the guide I wish every pregnant woman would read.
My own pregnancy turned dangerous — preeclampsia, bleeding, and an emergency delivery two months early. My son Raphael was born weighing just 800 grams. We lived the NICU journey: the fear, the waiting, the tiny victories.
It's why I make these videos, and why the warning signs matter so much to me. No mother should miss them the way they're so often missed.
I practised as a midwife in Ghana, caring for mothers through pregnancy, birth, and the newborn days. In Ghana — as in many countries — midwifery stands as its own distinct profession. In Canada, much of that same care is carried out within nursing, which is why I'm now studying nursing here. My mission, on my YouTube channel From Womb to World and here on this site, is to help people understand midwifery itself: its branches and its topics, from antenatal care to labour and birth to the first weeks with your baby — taught plainly, warmly, and without frightening you.
Thousands of mothers watch along every week. You're welcome here, wherever you are in your journey.
One gentle email a week — what to expect at your stage, the signs to watch for, and encouragement for the road. Written by me, for you.
